World Changing Technology

The world is changing at an increasingly dramatic rate. Think about inventions like electricity, the internal combustion engine, the personal computer, and the internet. They have changed so many lives in so many ways that there impact is almost impossible to measure. It does make you wonder though:
Technology that will Change the World
A 5x5 ft. solar cell that costs $100, could be screwed to the side of your house and meets all of your power needs -
We don't need to invest in technology like this, as the free market would see to it that such a technology would be in
your hands in no time. Other technologies however, while just as earth-shattering, may face significant barriers to implementation.
Below are some examples of world changing technolgies that might not make it without your support:
Imagine a new mass-transportation system that could deliver you where you want to be in 1/2 the time and for 1/10th the cost.
Sounds great right? Unfortunately, the auto industry, the oil industry and the inertia of existing infrastructure
would most likely delay the implementation of this technology for decades if not longer.
So what kind of technology could deliver such an incredible mass transportation system? The SkyTran project has this kind of potential. If such a project was implemented, the overall cost of transportation would drop dramatically by as much as 90%. Why? The overall number of transporation vehicles (currently in the form of cars) would drop because we wouldn't need 1 for each person any more. The cost and maintenance of each vehicle would also drop because they'd have no engine, no drivetrain, and wouldn't need much of the safety equipment that's now needed. Not to mention the dramatic fuel savings!
A country like the United States could reduce its fleet of 300 million cars (average cost of ownership including gas and maintenance is $30,000+) to about 50 million SkyTran modules which have a much reduced cost of ownership and maintenance ($5,000 - $10,000).
What about all of the mechanics, auto workers, and car dealerships? Won't this mean we'll lose jobs? In the short-term this is true, however, in the long term these people will move to new jobs, such as reengineering our electric grid or distributing solar technology.
A truly efficient transportation system will:
Imagine being able to travel to space for a few thousand dollars. Imagine vacations on the moon, cruises around venus,
and possibly even living in space. What fantastic new opportunities and possibilities!
A Space Elevator will one day provide these opportunities.
What is a Space Elevator?
Think of it as a long (very long) piece of cable with one end attached to earth and and the other end attached to an object orbiting high above us. Now instead of having to set off a massive (and dangerous) explosion beneath anything we want to send to outer space, we can just simply crawl up the cable.
For more information on the space elevator see:
The clean water crisis developing around the world could be solved in a number of ways. One is by simply delivering clean
water to communities in need. However, another solution is a technological breakthrough that allows communities to filter
water cheaply.
Just one (of many) promising filtering technologies is nanosponges which filter out pollutants on a microscopic scale. However, nanosponges are still in the early stages of development and expensive to produce.

- Reduce the cost of EVERYTHING as transportation costs are
part of every single physical product you can buy. - Reduce traffic.
- Reduce pollution.
- Reduce our dependance on oil.
- Eliminate auto-accidents.
- Change the world!

Help Dreamer.Me change the world by becoming a Virtual Volunteer!
The Dreamer.Me Volunteer Army is a way anyone can help make the world a better place by becoming a virtual volunteer. What is a virtual volunteer? This means you work as a volunteer from your home computer, on your own time, and on just the projects you feel comfortable with doing. Projects are assigned over email, and you choose whether or not you want to participate, so there's no commitment.
What Dreamer.Me is Doing to Change the World through Technology
Our focus is on popularizing and distributing technologies that have already been invented.
Would you like to live to see a future where the best ideas become reality?
Dreamer.Me donates 100% of our profits to make the world a better place. One of our 5 charitable causes is World Changing Technology. For more information see: How we're changing the world and How we donate to charity.
